His work is also important because it marks a time when print culture in Japan was increasing and artwork was being mass produced. Some of these pieces of art focused on women, but Hiroshige’s often emphasized the landscape of Japan and the people’s interaction with it. Ukiyo-e was a form of art that depicted subjects during their everyday life. He is known to be the last Ukiyo-e artist. Utagawa Hiroshige was a Japanese artist who was born in Edo, Japan in 1797.
